Savannah’s Best Coffee Spots

Three portafilters with coffee beans, ground coffee, and latte art on a table.

There’s so much to do and see in Savannah that you will undoubtedly need to caffeine to fuel your time there. Lucky for visitors and locals, Savannah has many wonderful local coffee shops to keep you going. Here’s a definitive list of the best coffee spots in Savannah (and a couple out on the Islands for good measure).

Downtown Savannah Local Coffee Shops

#1 – Savannah Coffee Roasters on Liberty Street is one of the most historic coffee roasters in the city. This downtown cafe has a homey atmosphere with lots of natural light. It’s a favorite for remote workers for its ample seating choices and work areas. In addition to their amazing in-house roasts, the Savannah Coffee Roasters baked goods are legendary. The crowd favorites are the almond croissant, chocolate croissant, and fluffy pavlova.

#2 – Coffee Fox is the quintessential corner coffee shop located at Broughton and Whitaker Streets. They carry all the classics, as well as a wide variety of baked goods, including some from the famous local bakery Auspicious. There are choices for both gluten-free and vegan customers, which is nice. Coffee Fox is the downtown location of what I call “The Foxes.” Their sister shops are Foxy Loxy and Henny Penny, both located South of Forsyth Park on Bull Street.

#3 – Bitty & Beau’s is located on Congress Street near City Market. This coffee shop originally hails from Wilmington, NC and is a self-proclaimed human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop, where people with intellectual & developmental disabilities are valued in the workplace. Bitty & Beau’s Coffee proudly employs 450+ individuals with disabilities nationwide. It’s a truly bright spot of downtown Savannah.

#4 – Cup to Cup Coffee is located on Abercorn Street next to the Indigo Cottage and about a block away from Colonial Park Cemetery. This quaint spot is a favorite of both downtown workers and visitors. Some Saturdays you can find Cup to Cup selling their delicious blends at the Forsyth Farmer’s, and their production facility is on nearby Wilmington Island.

#5 – Origin Coffee Roasters is relatively new to the Savannah coffee scene but has been thriving at their cafe location on MLK. They promote community and are known in the area for heading up fundraising efforts to help those less fortunate. Origin’s Savannah location is bright and airy, perfect for focusing in on a little computer work or having a meaningful conversation with a friend.

Midtown Savannah Local Coffee Shops

#1 – The Sentient Bean could still be considered downtown but is situated on the south end of Forsyth Park next to Brighter Day Natural Foods. This cafe welcomes everyone and is one of the businesses known to stay open even through extreme weather. They are dedicated to feeding and fueling the community, as well as being a gathering place for people from all walks of life. Their walls are decorated with rotating art from local artists. Note: during the Saturday Forsyth Farmer’s Market, “the Bean” as locals call it will be extremely busy. Plan your visit accordingly.

#2 – Foxy Loxy Cafe is a staple in the Savannah coffee community. This two-story cafe is housed in a historic Victorian home on Bull Street. In addition to upstairs seating, there is a shady courtyard in the back and a cozy bookstore (a location of the famed E. Shaver booksellers) next door in the iconic “Gingerbread House.” You can find Tex-Mex favorites on the menu to satisfy any taco cravings that accompany your need for caffeine. Overall, this is a wonderfully curated coffeehouse and worth a trip to see.

#3 – Henny Penny is the sister shop to Foxy Loxy a few blocks north on the same street. This cafe is kid-friendly, focusing on children’s arts and crafts in its seating area. This coffee stop is a MUST if you have kids in tow. Be sure to check out their list of upcoming events!

#4 – PERC Coffee is on Broad Street at 34th Street and specialize in curious coffee blends roasted by passionate coffee nerds! This local hangout has ample indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to their delicious coffee, they also offer Auspicious Baking Company products and steamy breakfast sammies. Everything you need to fuel your day in Savannah.

#5 – Cafe Taureau, like Foxy and Henny, is located on Bull Street just south of Victory Dr. This neighborhood coffee shop has European vibes and is cute enough to Instagram, that’s for sure. This cafe is perfect for meeting friends for a pick-me-up and a nice catch-up.

Bonus: Islands Local Coffee Shops in Savannah, GA (Wilmington Island and Tybee)

#1 – Friendship Coffee is a favorite of Wilmington Island residents. Located just near door to Savannah Bee Company’s headquarters on Johnny Mercer Blvd, Friendship has a huge menu of food and specialty drinks that are sure to satisfy. They close around 2pm, so head over there earlier in the day.

#2 – Tybean Coffee Bar was some of the only coffee you could find on Tybee Island for a long time. This quaint and beachy spot is located next to Hucapoo’s and the Mermaid Cottages on the main drag of Tybee Island (US-80). Visit their friendly staff to fuel your beach on North Beach (and maybe a visit to the Marine Science Center!?!).

#3 – Sand Cat Coffee is new to the Tybee Coffee scene. They’re open til 5 (a little later than Tybean) and have a great selection of pastries and snacks to choose from.

Just reading this should give you enough energy to go out and explore our amazing coffeehouses. Happy caffeinating!
