Every year, millions of women flock to Savannah, many for a girls’ getaway weekend, mother/daughter trip, sister retreat, bachelorette party, or for a destination wedding. No matter the reason for visiting, Savannah has a ton of fun to offer ladies whether you want to enjoy our boutique shopping, inventive cocktails, rooftop views, or modern mixed with traditional Southern cuisine. Whatever your fancy, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained—especially with a to-go cup in your hand along the way thanks to Savannah’s open-container law.
Friday
A quick, fun way to get acclimated with the city is to go on a tour. Of course, we recommend you start with one of our delicious food tours that takes you to several restaurants and specialty food stops that will help to give you a lay of the land, a bit of the history of the city, and of course confidence in choosing delicious restaurants to eat at for the rest of the weekend. Savannah Taste Experience has two distinct food tours that run every day of the week and start around 11 a.m. so you are bound to find one that you’ll love.
After your tour, return to your favorite shops for more browsing time or embrace the ‘5 o’clock Somewhere’ Savannah state of mind and visit Savannah Bee Company for their mead tasting for only $5. There are also incredible Georgia-grown wines in the basement of The Salt Table. You won’t believe how refined the wines are – believe it or not there are wines coming out of North Georgia that routinely win more awards than any other wine in the country, including those coming out of the storied Napa Valley.
For dinner, check out one of Savannah’s rooftop choices like Rocks on the Roof, Zunzi’s Too, or The Perch above Local11Ten for spectacular views and a cool breeze. Finish the night at nearby Saddlebags for line dancing, bull riding, live music, and bourbon slushies.
Saturday
If you’re the active types, take a jog around our beautiful city. Thanks to the simple grid system of the Historic District, you can easily navigate your way around. Or, take a class at Pure Barre, the hot new workout facility in Savannah. After getting your sweat on, time for breakfast and coffee at Foxy Loxy Cafe, a locals’ favorite. The coffee comes from Savannah’s premier coffee roaster, PERC, and you can pair it with their quiche of the day and tons of tasty baked goods, which includes some gluten free and vegan options, too. Head back to heavily photographed Jones Street for a stroll and some retail therapy in our Design District, including One Fish, Two Fish and The Corner Door.
For lunch, stop by FORM to pick up picnic provisions and head to Forsyth Park. Sit by the oft-photographed Forsyth Park Fountain and people watch while you munch on gourmet sandwiches and the city’s best cheesecake—it’s so good, many restaurants in town don’t even bother trying to compete and just carry the FORM cheesecakes. Squeeze in some more shopping downtown at cute boutiques like Red Clover, Harper, Trunk13, and Satchel. Be sure to peek in at the number of antique stores as you work your way up and down the picturesque Bull Street. For dinner, it’s tough to beat the Old Pink House for some gussied-up Southern cuisine, or visit B&D Burgers on Congress Street for the best patio in Savannah and a huge menu to please everyone.
And why not drink your dessert at Lulu’s Chocolate Bar? Or (we really mean “and”) pick from the 100s of inspired-by-dessert martinis at Jen’s & Friends. Wrap up your night with some live music and dancing at World of Beer or The Jinx. For a more relaxed evening, head to Jazz’d for smooth dinner music and fun cocktails or Winston’s Wine Bar for their 150+ bottle wine list.
Sunday
You can’t leave a girls’ weekend without having a fabulous brunch, and you can’t go wrong with bottomless mimosas at Dub’s Pub, or insanely good beignets at Huey’s on River Street. Keep in mind if you want a breakfast cocktail, Savannah law doesn’t allow them to be served until 12:30, so you have time to squeeze in a massage at Heavenly Spa by Westin. Arrive via the free water taxi departing in front of the Hyatt on River Street, and be sure to snap some photos of the Savannah riverfront from the other side.
After brunch, head to City Market for live music outside starting typically by 1 p.m., plus shopping at the local working art galleries that dot the open-air layout. Continue art hopping and visit all three Telfair Museums for one ticket price, which includes the Telfair Academy, Jepson Center, and Owens-Thomas House. Or, squeeze in a house museum or two at places like Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon-Low’s Birthplace or the Mercer-Williams House of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil fame.
For dinner, check out 19th Century-inspired Parisian bistro, Circa 1875, or the eloquent wine restaurant, Maxwell’s. End the day with karaoke at McDonough’s, which is the place to go on a Sunday night. However, if you prefer for someone else to do the singing, head over to Congress Street Social Club or check out the local calendars for what’s going on.
